Project Spotlight: UpToCode

Billboard with stage lights shining on the UpToCode project.

Because everyone has a right to a safe home, Northeast Legal Aid (NLA) is shaking things up with their new website UpToCode.  Through a series of guided interviews, the free service helps tenants do the following:

  1. Discover their rights under the law;
  2. Report problems to their landlord, a city housing inspector, or the court; and
  3. Get a court order to enforce repairs or to get compensation for illegal landlord actions.

Additionally, tenants can find answers to their questions, read the code, and document the issues with their home.

For this project, NLA partnered with Lemma Legal. Members of the team include Quinten Steenhuis, Stefanie Balandis, Cassandra Wayne, Samuel Adgie, and Mia Bonardi.

We are pleased to highlight this great project and the work being done within our community.
