LSC's AI Peer Learning Labs

LSC AI Peer Learning Labs

The Legal Services Corporation’s (LSC) new
AI Peer Learning Labs (“Learning Labs”) will launch this Spring.
This new initiative is designed to help legal aid programs share insights, develop best practices, and explore responsible ways to integrate AI into legal services. Through these Learning Labs, you and your colleagues will have the opportunity to engage
in peer-to-peer learning, connect with experts in the access to justice community, and exchange practical resources to support innovation in legal services.

Why Join?

Legal services organizations nationwide are exploring how Generative AI (GenAI) can enhance service delivery, streamline operations, and improve access to justice. Many of you have expressed interest in continuing to learn from your peers about AI implementation,
internal governance, and evaluation. Through these Learning Labs, LSC aims to:

  • Foster collaboration between grantees experimenting with AI.
  • Share lessons learned—both successes and challenges.
  • Provide structured discussions on key AI topics relevant to legal aid.
  • Equip programs with the knowledge and resources to make informed AI-related decisions.

Learning Lab Topics & Structure

Each Learning Lab will focus on a specific AI application, featuring expert presentations, facilitated discussions, and opportunities to share project materials and real-world experiences. The Learning Labs will convene virtually once a month for 60-90 minutes and will continue as long as there is sustained interest and value to participants. Below is an overview of the available Labs:

  1. AI Basics – Getting Up to Speed: A short-term foundational webinar series introducing key AI concepts and tools through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises. Sessions will be recorded for later access.
  2. AI & Operations: Exploring how AI can support administrative, operational, HR, and IT functions in legal aid organizations.
  3. AI & Legal Work: Examining how AI can assist advocates with legal research, drafting, client interactions, and litigation strategy.
  4. AI & Intake: Investigating how AI can improve client screening and intake processes to enhance efficiency and accessibility.
  5. Testing and Maintaining Your AI-enhanced Processes: Helping programs assess their AI tools and AI-enhanced activities for accuracy, efficiency, effectiveness, and impact to ensure responsible and effective use.
  6. Advanced AI: What’s Next? A space for those with AI experience to explore cutting-edge advancements and future opportunities for legal aid.
  7. Strategic AI Leadership: Designed for legal aid leaders and funders, this Lab will focus on leading organizations in strategically managing AI tools and policies and engaging in change management to improve adoption and use. This group will meet less frequently than others.
  8. Regulatory Issues Related to AI: A forum to discuss emerging ethical and regulatory concerns as AI continues to expand in the legal sphere. Discussion topics include but are not limited to the unauthorized practice of law (UPL), legal sandbox models,
efforts to regulate AI or AI-powered tools, and more. This group will meet less frequently than others.

How to Get Involved

To express interest and sign up, please complete this
