Technology Planning Is About More than Hardware and Software
Today we had our most popular webinar to date with over 150 people attending We moved quickly and covered a lot of ground. Including the opening and closing we are a hair under one tip per minute. There are too many tips to cover in this post, but you can watch the video above, look at the slides from the presentation, and read the notes (lightly edited) I used for my slides below.
If you do a lot of writing at work you might consider moving beyond Microsoft Word for your writing projects. People just using Microsoft Word for their writing will find that the program is good at finding obvious spelling errors, and not much else. Here at LSNTAP we have put together a handy list of software that will be helpful for writing and editing.

Moovly Animation Program
https://youtu.be/C-w_9T006ag
My immediate reaction to Moovly is that the signup process was extremely easy the user interface very simple. I like that - online animation programs tend to be overwhelming and Moovly feels much more friendly and familiar. The editor itself reminds me a lot of Final Cut Pro (albeit a much, much less complicated one.)
Remote testing
Remote testing allows you to conduct usability tests with the participants utilizing their own computers through online usability programs. Although these can be customized, overall the tests are between 15 and 30 minutes and contain 3-5 tasks per test. They can be moderated or unmoderated, depending on your needs and the platform.
Below are the worksheets used at the 2015 TIG Conference Session on Collaborative Game Design. The worksheets were developed parallel to Dr. Harteveld's Triadic Game Design (TGD) book to educate about TGD a model which incorprates reality, meaning, and play in game design. New Haven Legal Assistance partnered with NuLawLab and Dr. Harteveld to create a game which could better prepare self-represented litigants for their day in court.
The webinar is Language Access Strategies for Legal Aid Websites and will look at some of the topics surrounding removing language as a barrier to access online content. We will cover topics including maintaining multilingual content, where machine translation fits into the translation workflow, and how are people with limited English currently using online resources. We don’t have the solid takeaways like in the phishing webinar but there were a few interesting points we discussed.
We all know that usability testing is critical, but with COVID, we can't do it like we used to. Join LSNTAP, MAP, and GAP for an in-depth look at how to take your usability testing skills to the next level - virtual! In this 90-minute workshop, you'll get a quick brush-up on usability testing and then we'll focus on how to get the best results using online tools to connect with end-users remotely. We'll also hear from four community members about their experiences doing remote usability training.
