Low-Cost Mobile Broadband for Nonprofits in Chicago, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Portland

Mobile Citizen, a nonprofit setup to provide mobile broadband service to edcuation and nonprofit organizations, is now offerring very attractively priced mobile internet to nonprofits in Chicago, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Portland.

Mobile Citizen offers broadband though Clear's WiMax network. WiMax is one of the two major emerging 4G network technologies that promise significantly higher speeds than phone and aircard access through existing cellular networks. The competing technology, LTE, is being pushed by the telecom industry but is not yet available in the US.

Mobile Citizen's broadband mobile is $10/month. There is also a one-time cost of the USB aircard for $89. They also have options for an in-office router based network and a mobile router, like Verizon's MiFi card.

The service will be expanding to Denver, Minneaplis/St. Paul, Phoenix, Sacramento, and Salt Lake City in the future.

Thanks to Jane Ribadeneyra for sharing this on the LSTech list this morning.
