Programs across the country are encountering a growing number of limited English proficiency (LEP) clients who may be more comfortable discussing legal matters in their native languages. The opportunity to help LEP clients may be even higher in recent years as certain legal problems, such as the subprime mortgage crisis, have disproportionately impacted LEP clients.
Legal Aid is legally required to make an effort to serve these clients, but developing delivery systems to help them can be challenging. "Localization: Adapting Your Statewide Website to Better Reach Non-English Speaking Clients" offers suggestions about how to develop website content that serves your LEP clients.
