Converting DVD to site content

I would recommend that folks looking to convert their DVDs into web videos try an application called Handbrake. Handbrake will rip any unencrypted video from a DVD and convert it into several formats, including common ones like mp4 and avi. This allows you to convert to a format that can then be edited using basic video editing software. For instance, I converted a DVD video into an .avi and then did some editing with Windows Movie Maker. When you have a particularly long video that may need to be cut down into smaller pieces, that's especially helpful

Handbrake can also get around some DVD encryption found on commercial disks if you install an additional program called VLC media player. There are more details about that on their website - http://handbrake.fr. If you're having trouble getting around a DVD encryption, AnyDVD is another good program to consider. It's available at  http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html and comes with a 21-day free trial period. That said, all the usual warnings about copyright law apply.

Handbrake has the advantage of being free, open source, and very easy-to-use. You can also get a lot of support through its website forums thanks to the broad user-base.
